Nan Jian Yan (南尖岩)

The weekend of the 20-22th of april we travelled to Nanjianyan with our favorite travel group Youxiake. It had been a while since we joined an organised tour with them and as before it was a great experience.

The area we went to is about 400 km from Shanghai and it takes a good 6 hours to get there but it was worth it. We left on friday and arrived late at a hotel nearby so we could start early the next day. On Saturday our first stops included a few centuries old villages shattered across the landscape. The area is very mountainous and a lot of the slopes are terraced to allow farming. Because of the mountains and abundance of water there are many many hydroelectric dams in this area.

On sunday we got up at 04:00 (yes, really….) to view the ‘sea of clouds’  and the sunrise over it. In the photos below there are a few with the sea of clouds and some from the afternoon where you can see the whole valley with a beautiful terraced landscape. After a long drive we arrived back in Shanghai at 19:00. Total millage for the weekend was at least 1000 km… China is indeed a very very big country!
