Huangshan, Shangrao and Wuyuan (Canola Flowers)

The weekend of the 28th of april we travelled to Wuyuan to see the Canola (油菜籽) blossoming.

When these flowers, that are used to produce oil, are blossoming you can see seemingly endless yellow fields. To get there we travelled with a company called You Xia Ke which freely translates to the Travel Knights. It’s group travel but not in the regular Chinese way which means you don’t get ‘Shopping’  and ‘Attraction parks’ and most trips are themed. The one we choose is meant for photographers.

Our travel schedule:

  • Friday left Shanghai at 19:00 and arrived in Huangshan (city, not the mountain) around 01:00
  • Got up early on saturday to see a little bit of Huangshan old town.
  • Back in the bus we stopped at various places to arrive around 16:00 in Wuyuan.
  • The next morning we were supposed to get up at 05:00 but we overslept till 05:45 so we had to run uphill to catch sunrise. We made it!
  • Around 15:00 everyone was back on the bus and we arrived in Shanghai around 22:00
